Doing my best to capture Places and People
I’m aiming for “feeling like over looking like”
I spend most of my time trying to visually re-create the beauty of the everyday, the moments and scenes that reveal the character of a place and its people.
I sketch mainly on location, I prefer oil pastels and acrylic paint to capture the vibrant colours, textures, and energy of the world around me as I feel it.
Inspired by the grid-like blandness and uniformity of everyday urban landscapes, I try to capture the “happy place” that it probably is for those who love it.
My work celebrates the unique spirit of each location. From the bustling streets of city centres to the characters that live, work or are just there looking about like I am, I seek to distil the essence of each place into bold, childlike, expressive snapshots. Sometimes, it works, and sometimes, it doesn’t!
So to sum up . . . visual snapshots of happy places and the (sometimes grumpy) people I see there 🙂
